The winner has been announced for the Turning Points in St. Mary's County Historical Paper Contest! Nicholas Pontorno, a student at Esperanza Middle School, won with his essay that described how the Patuxent River Naval Air Station changed St. Mary's County's history. As the winner, he received a $50 check from the St. Mary's County Historical Society and he read his essay during the St. Mary's County Fair.
The historical paper contest was sponsored by the St. Mary's County Department of Economic & Community Development and the St. Mary's County Historical Society, in conjunction with St. Mary's County Public School.
